Tiye was the "Great Royal Wife" of the powerful 18th Dynasty pharaoh, Amenhotep III, and appears to have wielded enormous influence during the reign of her husband.
In 2010 her mummy was formally identified by DNA as the "The Elder Lady", discovered in 1898 by Victor Loret in a side chamber of Amenhotep II's tomb (KV35) in the Valley of the Kings. At the time of her identity was unknown, but Loret, aptly described the mystery woman's face as "[having] a noble and majestic seriousness."
This relief fragment comes from the tomb of the "Chief of the Royal Harem", Userhat (TT47), one of the tombs of the Nobles at Luxor. Userhat was "Chief of the Royal Harem" during Amenhotep's reign.
